Four days dedicated to jazz, with the support of the Mallorca Film Commission

The UNESCO Mallorca Center has presented the seventh edition of the International Jazz Day, which this year celebrates the centenary of the birth of Bebo Valdés with free admission to all concerts.

On Thursday 26, in compliance with UNESCO’s educational and cultural objectives, there will be a “Idea Table” on music education, coordinated by IB3 advisor Joan Trías. Within the “Cine & Jazz” section will participate in a talk / colloquium Pedro Barbadillo, responsible for the Mallorca Film Commission and Pere Fiol, director of the Ireneu Segarra School, on some segments of the film “El Milagro de Candeal” “. In fact, the director Fernando Trueba made three films in which Bebo Valdés has a leading role: “Chico y Rita”, “El Milagro de Candeal” and “Studio 54”.

The first concerts will be on Friday 27th: Christa Elmer in Port Portals and Palma Gospel Singers in Inca and will follow in Portals and Illetas. The last recital will be in Palma, where on Monday 30th (World Jazz Day) at the Caixaforum, Cuban percussionist Nailé Insulsa will give a master class and a concert in tribute to Bebo Valdés.

The well-established Mallorcan group “The Jazz Fingers”, winner of the “InterJazz” competitions of UNESCO in 2016 and “7Virtual Club” in 2017, will perform in Port Portals on Saturday 28th. “Long Time No Swing” will be at Illetas Spa on Sunday 29th. This group has broken the record for Jazz Day views on Facebook in a single day, with a video broadcast in “Streaming” in 2017 that recorded 15,000 observers.

The program ends on Monday 30 in Ocimax cinemas with the screening of Chico and Rita, awarded in the XXV edition of the Goya Awards as the best animated film and in the XXIV edition of the European Cinema awards in the category of Best European Animation Film.

There will also be several mini concerts at cocktails in Palma under the already-named “El Gin & el Jazz”.
