WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

ULYSSES’ SHELTER: BUILDING LITERARY RESIDENCIES NETWORK is the third stage of a project co-funded by the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) under the Creative Europe programme 2021-2027. The network of literary residencies has now been extended to seven European countries: Czech Republic, Croatia, Greece, Malta, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain and Wales in the United Kingdom, and collaborates with many institutions and NGOs in each participating country.

This call refers to the emerging authors (prose, poetry, translation) who can apply for one residency during 2022/2023. 

The residency programme addresses the international dimension as its priority by giving emerging authors the opportunity to work, perform and present themselves in different European locations. Each residency will be accompanied by a diverse supporting programme consisting of literature-related activities aimed at specific (local) target groups, such as taking part in literary readings, workshops, festivals and / or other literary-related activities.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY?

– Applicants must be emerging authors (prose/poetry) or literary translators

– Applicants must have at least one, and not more than three works officially published (online and/or in print)

– Applicants must be citizens of Spain or have a permanent residency in the Balearic Islands (Spain)

– Applicants must have advanced knowledge of English

– Applicants must be able to travel to the chosen location in the set period

– Applicants must write an entry for the ULYSSES’ SHELTER website Tovar.hr during the residency

– Applicants must be open to collaborating and working with other artists and partners

– Applicants should be interested in fostering a relationship with the local audience

NOTE: To be considered for the residency programme applicants must meet all eligibility criteria. 

WHAT IS OFFERED?

One (1) residency

– An introduction session, artist talk or other events/workshops

– Support for the resident

– Promoting residents on the ULYSSES’ SHELTER social media accounts, newsletter, and website Tovar.hr, as well as on all partners’ social media accounts, newsletters, and websites

– Networking possibilities and international visibility

– Covered accommodation and travel expenses (economy class)

– Fee for residents (400 EUR gross including all taxes) and Subsistence (300 EUR gross)

– A fantastic opportunity for ambitious emerging authors to benefit from a unique experience which can strengthen their career, and enable them to create new work, do research, as well as experiment and take on a new direction in their writing.

 

WHAT ARE THE SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS?

– Application must be sent to info@mallorcafilmcommission.net by September 26, 2022

– All documents have to be submitted in English

– It is possible to apply for more locations, but the chosen candidate can only be offered 1 placement

Necessary documentation:

  1. CV or Resume (no longer than one page)
  2. Motivational letter that includes an explanation of why the applicant wants to participate in this programme (no longer than 1 page)
  3. Choice of locations (up to 3): that includes an explanation of why the applicant wants visit specific locations and how it relates to their work (no longer than 1 page)
  4. Bibliography (list of published works)
  5. One recommendation letter (Optional)

WHEN WILL THE RESULTS BE PUBLISHED?

The results will be announced on the project’s and partners’ websites and social media by October 1, 2022. The selected applicants will also receive a direct email.

The Selection Committee will suggest one (1) applicant to participate in the residency programmes during 2022/2023.
